Before the growth in popularity of the Windows Server based operating system, many companies used the Novell Netware server product and the Groupwise email system.
A number of companies still use these products today.
However, Since Novell have thus far stated that there will be no replacement for the Novell Netware 6.5 operating system, and as yet, have not announced the future of the Groupwise 7.0 email system, many companies have had to consider the likely alternatives to their platform of choice.
In fact, many companies have already made that choice, and have voted with their feet.
As odd as it may seem, many companies find the migration process from their existing platform difficult to complete, namely because there are few tools that will do this seamlessly, and fewer companies that understand either side of the migration technology to complete the work effectively. In fact, some companies opt to leave their legacy Groupwise system in place as an 'archive' for all the emails that could not be migrated to their new system - leaving two email platforms to remain supported.
Most of these problems can be overcome, using the right approach, tools and the right amount of time. Firstly, there is no one-stop solution for a Novell migration to any platform, but there are a few solutions that do most things right - the rest is down to the staff completing the exercise.
Whether the replacement system is to be Windows based or Linux based, we are able to respond. We believe that a successful project is one where the client finds little or no trouble in converting from one system to another - this is completed by providing a realistic time-frame, the right personnel, the right equipment and the right support for the client before during and after the work.
As with all of our larger scale projects, time is dedicated to the correct handover and documentation of work, thus ensuring the right tools are with the client from the outset.
