One of our main areas of expertise is the supply, installation and migration of server systems.
Whilst we can supply many 'out of the box' products, our speciality in this area is getting the specification and installation of the server exactly right.
To specify the right server configuration, we look firstly at the needs of the client but also the requirements of the applications which the server hardware will be used for.
Applications rarely run at just one level of utilisation, and a badly specified server will respond poorly to high load levels, especially if no performance headroom has been anticipated.
Once we are happy with the requirements, we will look at the technology available to see what will provide the best performance for the price, plus the best resilience. We sell only the most trusted brands on the market, such as Hewlett Packard (HP), chiefly because they provide a superior level of after sales support not only to us but to the end user too - a consideration which is just as important as server performance.
To build the server correctly, we take the trouble to read the detailed specifications of the system, the manufacturer advisory papers on assembly and optimisation. This is done for the operating system too.
We then ensure that the relevant firmware, drivers, patches and updates are applied tested and checked prior to deployment. And as with all our installation work, we provide documentation which confirms the effort we put into getting all of the above right.
In short, it is relatively easy to buy a computer system and get an operating system installed upon it. The detail in how it is done is much more significant than many people realise.
There are a number of key points to remember when deciding what server hardware is right for your needs. These include:
The inherent risk involved in putting highly important applications upon poorly specified equipment is something that many people fail to understand until it is too late. For when downtime occurs, the fincial impact upon a business can be signifantly more than the cost saving of sourcing cheap equipment at time of purchase - with figures of ten times as much more cost not being uncommon.
Reliability of server components is, therefore, extremely important yet even the best equipment can be prone to hardware failures at times. That's why the service and support available when failure occurs is just as important as the quality of the hardware itself.
Cheap servers are just that - cheap servers! There are usually inviting deals to be had and, through our contacts at tier 1 IT distribution, i-Zimbra is always looking out for good, sensible equipment at competitive prices, which we then pass on to our customers.
Finding the right people to do the job is also essential. Our experience of specifying the right equipment, installing server hardware and undertaking complex server migrations is extensive. Furthermore, i-Zimbra consultants each have, on average, over than a decade of specialist server installation and migration experience.
