ASP and ASP.net Development

i-Zimbra has recently developed online catalogue and shopping websites in ASP.net.

We have also made extensive changes to ASP sites that clients did not want to be rewritten in ASP.net from scratch.

Produce Dynamic Web Pages with ASP

Active Server Pages (ASP) is a technology that was developed by Microsoft to dynamically produce web pages. The latest generation of ASP is the more recent and scalable ASP.net.

These technologies work server-side, this means that when a browser makes a request to an ASP/ASP.net application the server processes the code on the server and only returns HTML pages across the Internet to the browser. The point of this is that the browser does not receive the ASP/ASP.net code to render or process locally.

ASP was originally introduced by Microsoft in 1996 and is a scripting language. A web server that supports ASP processing is required to execute the scripts and largely the platform of choice is a Windows Server running Microsoft's Internet Information Services. However, Sun Microsystems have also developed Chili!Soft ASP, which enables other types of web servers to process ASP pages such as Linux, AIX and HPUX.

The original ASP code was largely unstructured and as applications grew in size they became increasingly difficult to maintain. Microsoft's solution to this problem was to introduce the .NET Framework and ASP was built into the framework resulting in a structure language set that makes Internet application development quicker and simpler.

An essential benefit to note is that, when building large Internet applications, ASP.net greatly reduces the amount of code required, in comparison to standard ASP.
