Application Specification

Planning an Application Specification

The production and agreement of an application specification document is the first step on the path to developing a new software application.

An application specification is an essential document which details the requirements and terms of reference for the production of software.

It forms a communication bridge that clearly describes how the resulting application will work to both the client and our software developers.

Working with the Customer to Develop an Application

Before programming can begin, the application specification must be signed off by the client. If any changes to the specification are requested after software production has begun, the change must be documented and its impact on the project assessed before software development can continue.

The specification is based on consultations with client representatives. The length and number of consultations required depends on the complexity of the proposed application and the number of client representatives that need to be consulted. The consultation process defines:-

Following the consultations we prepare the application specification and, together with the client, we include the software languages that will be used to develop the software such as PHP or ASP.net, the database engine(if required) e.g. MySQL or Microsoft SQLServer. We also address minimum requirements for hardware and where relevant online hosting sizing recommendations.

Employing these techniques ensures that our software development projects meet with expectations and are delivered on time and on budget.
